USES: Red phosphorous is used to form safety matches, pyrotechnics, incendiary shells and tracer bullets, light metal casting, organic synthesis, flame resistant coatings and finishes and is used in the manufacture of fireproof polyurethane hard foams.
HANDLING: When heated in air to about 260 °C the material ignites and burns to form the pentoxide. Reacts when heated in an atmosphere of chlorine. Wear fireprotective clothing when working material. Fumes from burning material are highly irritating and slightly toxic in high concentrations. Use wet sand or dirt after fire is extinguished with water. Re-ignition can occur. Since no exposure limit has been established by OSHA and ACGIH, we recommend that our product be treated as a nuisance dust 15mg/m3. See SDS for more information.
